Our Science curriculum provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all students are taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, students are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena.
Key Stage 3 Science Curriculum
Dean Trust Rose Bridge KS3 Science follow the Pearson Exploring Science – Working Scientifically Course throughout Years 7 – 9. Year 7 follow a shared scheme which is Trust wide. At the end of Year 9, the pupils complete transition units which prepare them for the demands of the KS4 course. This scheme links with the Edexcel Combined Science/Triple Science course that pupils will follow in Year 10 and 11.
The unit codes refer to the topics within the Exploring Science – Working Scientifically Scheme.
Key Stage 4 Curriculum
We then begin teaching the new 9-1 Combined Science Curriculum in Year 10. This involves pupils being taught all three of the science disciplines on a topic rotation, as well as undergoing ‘Core Practicals’ which are now part of the new curriculum across the country. Pupils are assessed now at the end of Year 11 via six external GCSE examinations.
