Physical Education

During their time at Dean Trust Rose Bridge, we want our pupils to gain an appreciation of sport and realise the importance of leading a healthy active lifestyle. Our curriculum is planned carefully to allow pupils to experience a wide variety of opportunities and experiences to continue their interest into adulthood. Within PE lessons, we enable pupils to take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating. Through the range of experiences that PE offers, pupils learn how to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations.

Key Stage 3

Within KS3, pupils follow a programme of study designed to provide the fundamental knowledge, skills and understanding required for success across a wide range of activities. These activities are categorised as invasion games (football, rugby, netball, hockey & basketball), net/wall games (badminton & volleyball), aesthetic-based activities (gymnastics & trampolining) health and fitness, athletic activities and striking and fielding activities (cricket, softball, rounders & tennis). During lessons, pupils are encouraged to develop inter-personal skills through leading warm ups, planning strategies to outwit opponents and also by offering feedback to their peers.

Key Stage 4

All KS4 pupils follow a programme of participation within two Core PE lessons where a variety of sports and activities are offered throughout the year.

For those pupils who choose to study PE in greater detail, we currently offer two sport based pathways across KS4: GCSE PE (AQA) and Cambridge National Sports Studies (OCR).
